2-0 win in the home game – Servette continues to win against harmless GC – Sport

The Grasshoppers had made their way to Geneva to break Servette’s winning streak. The Geneva team had won 6 Super League games in a row, and now the record champions faced the challenge of taking something worth counting from the Stade de Genève. But it quickly became clear that nothing would come of it.

After the deserved lead by Jérémy Guillemenot, who defeated GC goalie Hammel with a powerful finish from around 20 meters (16th), Servette remained dominant. The quick double strike was only prevented by a narrow offside position; Chris Bedia scored after Guillemenot’s assist (20′).

GC too safe

Meanwhile, the Grasshoppers’ offensive efforts were limited to individual actions. The gaps between defense and attack were too big to push for an equalizer together. A long ball to the recovered Theo Corbeanu caused at least a little danger, but the Canadian only hit the crossbar from a tight angle.

Geneva also remained dominant in the second half. Hammel saved from a shot by the omnipresent former hopper Bendeguz Bolla, and the 22-year-old later parried an attempt by Guillemenot. The GC goalie really excelled in the 69th minute. Maksim Paskotsi held Bedia back by the jersey, which resulted in a penalty. The person who was fouled started himself – and failed because of Hammel.

Rouiller with the decision

Even this missed shot did not unsettle Servette. In the 75th minute, Timothé Cognat got too much space on the edge of the penalty area and shot the ball through many legs to make it 2-0. It was the decision in a one-sided game.

Servette celebrates its 7th Super League victory in a row and is closing in on YB in terms of points. Only two points are missing from the leader FCZ. After a mixed start to the season, René Weiler’s team has really found its feet.

This is how it goes

A difficult task awaits Servette on Thursday with the Europa League game against AS Roma. The championship continues away at YB on Sunday. GC meets Lausanne-Sport at home the day before.
