The Germans lose the second game in a row. In the “neighbours test” against Austria in Vienna we lost 0-2.

Germany is not getting going even under new coach Julian Nagelsmann. The four-time world champion lost out in a surprisingly one-sided neighboring duel with Austria.

In the 2-0 win, the locals convinced the Viennese audience with two impressive goals. After half an hour, Marcel Sabitzer danced past Jonathan Tah in the center of a disorganized German defense and scored with a well-placed shot to make it 1-0. In the second half, Christoph Baumgartner refined a beautiful passing relay with a lob over goalie Kevin Trapp (73′).

Sané with an inglorious premiere

Shortly after the break, Leroy Sané weakened Germany considerably and saw the first red card of his professional career after a freak out. The victory of the superior Austrians could have been even greater.

After Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat against Turkey, Germany lost again and suffered the next setback in their own country 7 months before the European Championship finals.
