With the Fire TV Stick Lite, Amazon offers an inexpensive entry into streaming. However, a new competitor is now putting a lot of pressure on prices.
Even modern smart TVs suffer from aging. After a few years, the operating system may become sluggish or certain apps for the new streaming service may no longer be offered for the model. TV streaming sticks provided a solution, at least if you don’t want to buy a new television. The devices from Amazon are very popular because they are cheap. The Fire TV Sticks are available outside of promotions from just 35 euros.
They make old TVs “smart”, responsive and offer a huge selection of apps. The cheapest model is the Fire TV Stick Lite, which offers a Full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) and is the first choice, especially for price-conscious buyers. That’s how it is so far, but it could change soon – at least in the USA.
Saving tip: The Roku Express HD Streaming Player is currently another affordable Fire TV alternative without Amazon Prime advertising. Media Markt is offering the TV stick for just 18 euros for a short time.
The retail group Walmart is currently facing serious competition and offers a streaming service for just 14.88 US dollars (the equivalent of around 13.56 euros). The “Full HD Streaming Device” from the manufacturer onn. runs with Google TV and also offers Chromecast built-in for streaming from smartphones and tablets. Voice control of the TV content using Google Assistant is also possible.
A good alternative for non-Amazon customers
The main advantage over the Fire TV Stick is that the interface is not as overloaded with Amazon advertising as with Roku devices. Anyone who doesn’t have a Prime subscription should be happy about this.
Since Walmart doesn’t deliver to Germany, the streaming device probably won’t make it here. However, the competitive pressure in the USA may be enough for Amazon to lower prices even outside of promotions.
