20-meter fall – Tyrol: Two seriously injured in paragliding accidents

There were two serious accidents with paragliders on Monday afternoon in the Tyrolean Zillertal. A 61-year-old crashed into a wooden fence in Fügenberg during an emergency landing, and another pilot (31) crashed his glider in Finkenberg shortly afterwards. Despite his serious injuries, the man fought his way down into the valley on his own.

The first accident happened around 1 p.m. In the municipality of Fügenberg, a 61-year-old paraglider had to make an emergency landing for reasons that are still unclear. He crashed into the Kunzeraste at around 1230 meters above sea level against a wooden fence. As a result, the man sustained serious injuries. After the first aid, he had to be flown by the emergency helicopter to the state hospital in Innsbruck. Paraglider fell 20 meters For a 31-year-old paraglider, the flight ended on Monday in the university clinic. Shortly before 1:30 p.m., he found himself in an emergency situation due to the gusty wind when the paraglider tipped forward at the Penken Panorama Restaurant. The 31-year-old threw the rescue parachute, but without success: the pilot fell about 20 meters down and landed in a depression. The casualty was able to dial the emergency number himself and take the gondola down to the valley, where he went to the Sportclinic Mayrhofen gifted. Doctors there diagnosed that the man had suffered serious injuries to his spine and upper body. He was then taken to the Innsbruck clinic.
