Share your favorites. The year 2023 is coming to an end and has not been easy in the world of video games. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Baldur’s Gate III, Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, Street Fighter 6, Hogwarts Legacy Or Starfield…the pace of releases was punctuated by numerous major productions, particularly due to catching up on delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There was no shortage of surprises from the small studios either.

A sector that is nevertheless suffering. Despite the dynamism of the video games market, whose turnover for 2023 is estimated at 167 billion euros by the Newzoo firm, the last few months have been marked by massive layoffs in the studios. There are, for example, more than eight hundred at the Swedish Embracer or the American Epic Games, creator of Fortnite.

The video game industry has also evolved a lot in twelve months. The acquisition of the publisher Activision Blizzard by Microsoft will reshuffle the cards. The Los Angeles Motor Show, the very influential E3, will no longer take place. And Google has buried its Stadia online gaming service. Without forgetting other highlights, such as the Major de Counter-Strike in Paris, won by a French team, the success of the television series inspired by The Last of Us or even the world championship on the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

And you, what news from the video game year particularly struck you? What are your favorites? Which games surprised you or, on the contrary, disappointed you? Send us your testimonials in this chat.

Tell us everything and come discuss it with Pierre Trouvé, journalist at the Pixels department and specialist in video games.
