The St. Gallen cheer exuberantly about the long-awaited victory.

  • FC St. Gallen deservedly beat Grasshoppers 2-1 at home in the 15th round of the Super League.
  • Thus, coach Peter Zeidler’s eleven have booked their first “treble” in the championship since September 4th.
  • The goals for the winning team come from Jérémy Guillemenot and Basil Stillhart.

The Grasshoppers were able to bring themselves back into the game in just seven minutes. Following a corner kick, Christian Herc pushed in shortly after the break to make it 1-1. The Slovakian thus corrected a deficit that his colors had gotten in spite of an appealing performance in a very attractive and intensively led first half.

But the St. Gallen didn’t let that deter them and instead knew the only right answer. An exemplary counterattack was at the origin of the renewed lead. Basil Stillhart refined an interaction with Jérémy Guillemenot via the inside of the post to make it 2-1 (55th).

Zigi records the three dots

“Green-White” was able to save the narrow lead over the finish line – and thank keeper Lawrence Ati Zigi in a turbulent final phase. The Ghanaian steered a shot by Ayumu Seko over the crossbar in injury time. In general, the 25-year-old proved to be a match winner, a great support for FCSG and destroyed some of the opponent’s chances.

Guillemenot had steered the game in the desired direction after around 20 minutes. He kicked the ball into the goal with his heel.

Just three dots from the last two months

In their last home game of 2022, in front of an atmospheric crowd of over 18,000 spectators, the eastern Swiss team achieved their first full success since September 4th and the 2-1 win against leader Young Boys. Since then, 7 games followed without a win and only 3 points. With the liberation, the FCSG made a set in 3rd place in the table.

Meanwhile, the Grasshoppers present themselves in a drained state shortly before the winter break. 4 of the last 5 games were lost.

The voices of the game

This is how it goes

For the last round before the World Cup break, St. Gallen will travel to FC Sion next Saturday evening. The Grasshoppers are hoping for a conciliatory end to the year against FC Basel on the same day in the Letzigrund (from 8:10 p.m. live on SRF Zwei).
