25th win: Voorde regains the lead in the standings

25th win
Voorde regains the lead in the standings

Home win for Larry ten Voorde and his GP Elite team based near Amsterdam: The Dutchman won the fifth race of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland at Zandvoort. Porsche Junior Bastian Buus from Denmark finished second ahead of his British Allied Racing teammate Harry King.

Another Dutchman managed the surprise of the race: two days after his 17th birthday, Robert de Haan secured fourth place in his debut in the one-make cup with the 375 kW (510 hp) Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

“I admit, I was a bit lucky,” admitted Larry ten Voorde after beating his own record with his 25th victory in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany. In fact, the Dutchman, who had started from pole position, lost the lead to Porsche Junior Bastian Buus after just a few corners. But seconds later the race was interrupted because several vehicles had to be recovered after a collision.

Larry ten Voorde prevails in a duel with Bastian Buus

Bad luck for Buus: At the restart, the 20-year-old Dane had to line up just behind ten Voorde according to the regulations. And a second time the two-time champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland did not let himself be taken by surprise. “Bastian tried again, but this time I was prepared for it,” said ten Voorde after the race on the Formula 1 circuit on the North Sea coast. “It’s a great feeling to win my home race and GP Elite’s in front of so many Dutch fans.” With the win, Larry ten Voorde took over the lead from his teammate Loek Hartog, who finished fifth.

“The interruption of the race was understandable, but of course it was bad for me. But that’s the way it is in motorsport, I can live with that. Tomorrow I’ll start next to Larry from the front row again, then I’ll have a new chance,” Buus looked back at the second race of the Weekend ahead, starting at 11:25am on Sunday.

A similarly exciting duel as ten Voorde and Buus for victory was fought by Harry King and Robert de Haan for third place. “Due to the duel with Robert, I initially missed the connection to Larry and Bastian. When I was able to pull away from him, the two were already too far away. But I’m happy with third place, at least one position better than my starting position”, commented King. The Brit drives for the German team Allied Racing.

17-year-old Dutchman secures victory in the rookie classification

Despite coming in second against King, Robert de Haan was the hero of the day. The only 17-year-old Dutchman – actually a participant in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux – started in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany for the first time. As a substitute for the German Kai Pfister in the nine-eleven of the HRT Performance team, de Haan was already the fastest rookie in qualifying. With fourth place in the race, he then secured victory in the category for cup beginners ahead of Belgian Ghislain Cordeel (GP Elite) and Janne Stiak (ID Racing) from Steinhude.

The Swiss Alexander Fach (FACH AUTO TECH) crossed the finish line as the best-placed driver from the talent pool of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland in sixth place overall. Sören Spreng, who also competes for GP Elite, was the winner of the ProAm category. The German finished just ahead of Ahmad Alshehab from Kuwait (CarTech Motorsport Bonk). In third place, his German teammate Michael Essmann climbed onto the ProAm podium.
