27th Mountain Film Festival – Five Housewives and “The Giant Thing”

Like so many other things, the mountain film scene is strongly male dominated. That is why the festival management around Martin Hasenöhrl made special efforts to give women a bigger stage. “We took a group photo last time, where unfortunately only men were upstairs. Then some people came up to me and asked me: ‘What about the girls’? ”The film“ Pretty Strong ”- the first and only climbing film to date that has been produced by an exclusively female team – is one of the festival’s big highlights . “It’s a film by women, about women, but for everyone – that’s exactly what it’s about,” said Hasenöhrl. In “Cholitas”, five Peruvian housewives try to climb the Aconcagua, the highest mountain in South America (6961 meters). They wear their traditional, colorful garb. Coca leaves and alcohol also play a role. In “Das Riesending” the audience experiences an adventurous tour from the perspective of a cave team exploring the kilometer-long cave passages of the Salzburg Untersberg.
