2K Games reportedly signed with LEGO to make a range of sports games

In what would represent a great opportunity for 2K Games to diversify its catalog while strengthening its position in the sports games segment, this partnership with LEGO would initially result in a football game developed by Sumo Digital. The release of the game would be scheduled for this year, not far from the 2022 World Cup which will take place from November 21 to December 18, 2022 in Qatar.

The second game of this alliance would be developed internally at Visual Concepts and would take the form of an open world racing game. Does this remind you of anything? Yes, it would indeed be the game mentioned a few days ago, to the chagrin of those who maintained the hope of seeing Midnight Club again.

This partnership stems from the end of the exclusive contract that LEGO had until now with TT Games, the studio of Warner Bros. Games which has continued to produce LEGO games since 2005 and this under working conditions which have also been the subject of debate recently. After several delays, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is expected on April 5, 2022.

Speaking of Star Wars, the end of the cooperation between LEGO and TT Games is reminiscent of that of Lucasfilm Games, which opened the Star Wars license to players other than Electronic Arts, in particular Ubisoft and Quantic Dream. This does not prevent the American publisher from still having several Star Wars games in preparation at Respawn Entertainment.

According to VGC sources, TT Games still has a LEGO game in the works after The Skywalker Saga. Beyond that, TT Games and Warner will still have the freedom to work with LEGO, but not exclusively. In 2020, LEGO had already transferred its film and television rights from Warner to Universal.
