Well, is the closet’s answer to the question “What are we going to wear today?” again: we have nothing to wear? The 2×2 formula promises stylish everyday looks with things we already have in the closet. It’s all in the mix!

Don’t worry, the math trauma can get buried way back in your head again. And the pocket calculator can also stay in your pocket. This formula is uncomplicated, light and promises an elegant, yet cool style in no time. The hype is currently making the rounds, especially on TikTok, and promises to create elegant casual chic with the 2×2 formula.

2×2 styling trick: casual chic works that easily

Who doesn’t know it: Sometimes the look is too sporty, sometimes you’re totally over the top in the office and you look like you’re on your way to the next gala event. This is where the formula helps and creates the best of both worlds. The viral principle goes back to a total of four items of clothing, two of which are elegant and the other two casual. And, on TikTok, this calculation works. For example, if you choose a chic blazer and fine ballerinas, they are best combined with casual baggy jeans and a cool tank top. Slip dress AND elegant blazer? No problem. Shapeless sneakers and a cap solve the overly glamorous problem.

One thing is certain: the calculation works and transforms every style question mark into a respectable answer that can be further enhanced with any clothing or accessories. But which clothes are elegant and which are more cool?

Garments that look elegant

The range of elegant garments is huge. When it comes to outerwear, shirts, single-colored blouses made of fine fabrics or models with appliqués such as pearl buttons or lace inserts are particularly convincing. Sheath dresses, midi dresses made from flowing fabrics, high-necked blouse dresses with sophisticated collars and tailored blazers are also part of the range. Trench coats and long wool coats protect you from the cold in winter. Below, paperbag or suit pants, long skirts or short skirts with Vichy patterns are ideal choices. When it comes to shoes, the motto is: Anything that has a small heel or is shiny looks glamorous. Ballerinas, loafers or pumps give every outfit a noble component.

Garments that look cool

Casual looks are characterized primarily by comfort and a touch of indifference. Of course, there isn’t necessarily any truth behind it, but this unexcited style makes this casual coolness perfect. Anything oversized definitely falls into this category. Wide jackets, sweaters and pullovers look effortless and loosen up any outfit. Expansive, falling cuts in dresses, or exactly the opposite: body-hugging mini dresses are based on popular street styles. Jeans, joggers and shorts as well as bomber or training jackets complete this category. The icing on the cake is then only cool sporty sneakers or sandals.

Picking two styles from each category, this creates the nonchalant looks that we love so much about Scandinavian street style bloggers or French women.
