3-0 win in Cornaredo – FCZ finds its way back to victory against harmless Lugano – Sport

  • In the 14th round of the Super League, FC Lugano lost 3-0 at home to FC Zurich.
  • After goalie Steven Deana was injured, outfield player Lukas Mai was in goal for Lugano for the last few minutes.
  • In the other Sunday games, GC celebrated a clear victory, Servette beat Basel 4-1.

Shocking moment in the Cornaredo after 75 minutes: Goalie Steven Deana made two strong saves, but then collapsed. The 33-year-old was treated for minutes but was then able to leave the pitch independently. His previously hit jaw became thickly bound. According to coach Mattia Croci-Torti, the goalkeeper suffered a large cut on his lower jaw.

Because FC Lugano had already made five changes at this point (including four times after the break), defender Lukas Mai had to take over the goalie position. He initially held his own there for some time – but in the 88th minute he had to reach behind himself. A shot from Antonio Marchesano was deflected unstoppable – even a seasoned keeper would hardly have saved it. The 3-0 win for FCZ was synonymous with the decision.

Two goals in the first half

The guest from Zurich had already laid the foundation for success in the first half. After a determined attack, Jonathan Okita put FCZ in the lead after fifteen minutes. The 27-year-old striker was left alone on the edge of the penalty area and scored without any problems to make it 1-0.

After 33 minutes, the Zurich team did not deserve to increase. However, the goal came about quite happily. A corner came into the penalty area on the second cross attempt, where a Luganesi headed the ball into the face of Lindrit Kamberi – who unexpectedly became the goalscorer.

Lugano too safe

The home team from Lugano never really got into the game. Substitute Renato Steffen had the best chances with a shot from distance (52′) and Hicham Mahou with a shot deep into the post in stoppage time. However, the European Cup trip during the week was still noticeable for the Luganesi.

In the table, Lugano is slowly losing sight of the top teams, while FCZ reacted to its first defeat of the season last week and is still only one point behind leader YB in 2nd place.

This is how it goes

Because of the national team break, the Super League will only continue in two weeks. The FCZ will meet the Young Boys on Saturday from 6:00 p.m., Lugano will be a guest on Yverdon-Sport from 8:30 p.m. (live on SRF).
