Thanks to passing the character test, YB delivered in the title race. The Bernese deservedly beat FC Luzern 4-2 at home and are now six points ahead of their first pursuers Lugano in the table.

For Lucerne, the last hope of making it into the Championship Group ended with the trip to Bern. One round before the division of the table, the central Swiss can no longer catch up with the trio FCZ, St. Gallen and Winterthur, which will definitely be involved in the fight for Europe.

Lucerne mentally in the cabin

YB earned their 13th home win of the season thanks to an increase in performance after the break. Only 8 minutes after the restart, from Bern’s point of view, instead of being 1:2 behind, it was 4:2 ahead:

  • 47th minute: With a willful goal, Meschack brings Elia YB back into the game. The Lucerne team failed to get the ball away in several attempts, the striker followed up and scored to make it 2-2.
  • 49th minute: The turnaround is perfect two minutes later. Joël Monteiro is left criminally alone in front of the penalty area, takes the shot and takes the lead for the first time.
  • 53rd minute: Once again it is Monteiro who scores. After a corner from Lukasz Lakomy, he headed the ball into the net into the near corner to make it 4-2.

Lucerne needed a few minutes to recover from this blow to the neck. As a result, a lively exchange of blows developed with top chances on both sides, but without any further goals.

The Central Swiss team was deprived of the benefits of a strong first half. The guests from Lucerne took the lead in Wankdorf in the 3rd minute thanks to Jakub Kadak. Lucerne again responded to the interim equalizer by Silvère Ganvoula (27th) with Kadak making it 2-1 (33rd). Because of the completely sleepy start to the second half, the Slovakian’s double was ultimately worthless.

This is how it goes

In the last round before the table is divided, FC Luzern travels to FC Basel at St. Jakob-Park next Sunday. YB is also a guest at Winterthur (4:30 p.m. live on SRF info).
