Good news for employees: the government has decided to extend until the end of June 2022 the doubling of the ceiling for restaurant vouchers, which had gone from 19 to 38 euros at the end of the first confinement in June 2020. But, to take advantage of this, there is some subtleties to know.
1 – Until when can you pay 38 euros per day in meal vouchers?
The government has decided to maintain the doubling of the daily limit for restaurant tickets until June 30, 2022, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire said on Wednesday. Passed from 19 to 38 euros to accompany the reopening of restaurants in June 2020 after the confinement due to Covid, this ceiling was to return to its original amount on March 1, 2022. A chance which has therefore been postponed by 4 months.
To justify the approach, Bruno Le Maire’s cabinet explains that the decision to extend these derogations responds to the need to continue supporting the catering sector, whose activity remains disrupted by the pandemic and the measures taken to deal with it, especially in the past few weeks.
Furthermore, it will be always possible to use your paper tickets as your payment card on Sundays and public holidays. This possibility is extended for the last time until June 30, specifies the Minister of the Economy.

2 – Where can you pay up to 38euros? And where are you limited to 19euros?
This measure concerns restaurants. But she does not apply to supermarkets or food shops such as butchers, greengrocers or fishmongers where spending on restaurant tickets remains limited to 19 euros per day. In addition, in food shops, restaurant vouchers are not valid on Sundays and public holidays, unless this indication is clearly specified on the restaurant voucher, specifies the public service site. Please note that this double ceiling does not theoretically accumulate. If you spend 38 euros at the restaurant this Thursday, you will not be able to do your food shopping on the same day with restaurant vouchers. On the other hand, if you buy food products for 19 euros on Thursday, you can spend a maximum of 19 euros at the restaurant on the same day, i.e. a total of 38 euros in restaurant ticket expenses.

3 – What fate for 2021 tickets?
The paper restaurant vouchers for 2021 are valid until 28 February 2022 as provided for in article R3262-5 of the Labor Code. If you haven’t had time to use them all, it is possible to change them with your employer until March 15 to obtain 2022 titles. After that, it will be too late.
For employees who have a card, the procedure is simpler to change their tickets. Edenred, issuer of the Ticket Restaurant card, explains for example on its website: The balance transfer is done automatically without any action on your part. On the other hand, explains Edenred, If your card has a unusable status (card with expired, damaged, stolen, lost, blocked, temporarily blocked, awaiting activation, awaiting dispatch, or in the process of activation) dating from before July 31, 2021 inclusive, then you will have to ask activate the automatic transfer of your balance from your MyEdenred app, between the beginning of February and March 15, 2022.
