The months go by and the Nintendo Switch Online catalog continues to grow. It will very soon host three Game Boy classics.
Nintendo Switch Online still has a bright future ahead of it. The manufacturer’s big bosses have made it abundantly clear: the service will continue once the successor to the Switch arrives. It will undoubtedly evolve, with the arrival of new consoles in the classic catalog, we hope, but in the meantime Big N continues its routine. Little Sunday surprise, subscribers will be able to discover three new classics in a few days.
Three new “free” games in Nintendo Switch Online
March 10 is Mario’s day and no one else’s. The Plumber is making headlines this Sunday with the unexpected announcement of the second animated film, still in collaboration with Illumination. The date is April 2026, but the players will have plenty to do until then. Starting with the adventures of our Princess Peach on March 22, followed by Paper Mario: The Millennium Door on May 23, then Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD on June 27, 2024 on Nintendo Switch. And for the more nostalgic, Big N had one last surprise up his sleeve.
During the short presentation dedicated to this MAR10, the Japanese publisher confirmed the arrival of three great classics in the Nintendo Switch Online catalog. The tetris-like Dr Mario and the sports players Mario Golf and Mario Tennis will be available free of charge from March 12, 2024 to all subscribers to the service. Be careful though, they will only arrive in their GameBoy versions. If you need to refresh your memory, or if these three additions will be a discovery, here is a quick recap:
Presentation of the three additions to the catalog
- Dr.Mario : NES classic released in 1990, re-released multiple times on other platforms including the Game Boy, version which will be available on Nintendo Switch Online. Appearing shortly after the explosion of Tetris, it uses all the gameplay principles, except that here Mario puts on his doctor’s coat to eradicate viruses of different colors.
- Mario Golf : back at the end of the 90s, with a very colorful, cartoon vision of the discipline. First episode of this spin-off series that needs no introduction, Mario Golf at the time offered 7 game modes, including Tournaments and a Training mode.
- Mario Tennis : at the beginning of 2001, the plumber swapped his golf club for his racket. Released in parallel on N64, the Game Boy version clearly suffered from the comparison, but its graphics, its hidden terrain, its universe and a gripping single-player mode allowed it to get into the public’s good graces.
