Samsung could take advantage of the new ARM Cortex-X5 cores and a change in architecture not yet completely mastered at Qualcomm to design an Exynos 2500 which would have nothing to envy of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

Historically, Samsung’s high-end Exynos chips have always lagged behind their Qualcomm Snapdragon competitors. The performance gap between the SoCs is all the more disturbing since the South Korean manufacturer has gotten into the habit of equipping certain Galaxy S models with both Exynos and Snapdragon depending on the region. This will once again be the case for the Galaxy S25.

A problem for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4?

But for 2025, Samsung would be confident in its ability to design an Exynos 2500 chip that is at the level of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Leaker Revegnus reveals that internally, we believe that the next premium SoC “will not fall behind its rival in terms of quality”.

The source specifies that it does not know if this optimism from Samsung comes from the excellent performance of the Exynos 2500, or rather from a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 which would not be as good as expected.

As a reminder, Qualcomm must make a very important change starting with its next generation of chips. The founder will replace the Cortex cores from ARM that it has used until now with Oryon cores from Nuvia, a young player in the semiconductor market, which Qualcomm acquired in 2021. In 2022, ARM continued moreover Qualcomm and Nuvia in court for violation of licenses.

An Exynos 2500 boosted with Cortex-X5

For its part, Samsung will integrate the new Cortex-X5 cores from ARM into its Exynos 2500, which promise a significant gain in performance. The chip will be engraved at a fineness of 3 nm, like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. This will be a first for both Samsung and Qualcomm.

This is not the first time that Samsung believes it is at the same performance level as Qualcomm in recent years. Ultimately, the benchmarks never prove it right, even if the Exynos perform rather well in terms of energy efficiency. It is therefore advisable to remain measured as to the real capabilities of the Exynos 2500 before having seen it in action.
