A 3-year-old child was rushed to Bordeaux University Hospital on Tuesday, October 18. His right foot, caught by his father’s mower, was largely severed.

It is a tragic domestic accident which took place in Roaillan, in the South-Gironde. This Tuesday, October 18, in the middle of the day, while a resident of the town was mowing in his garden, he accidentally cut off part of his 3-year-old son’s foot.

The boy was having fun not far from his dad, when he unfortunately fell in front of the running machine. Being self-propelled, the mower driven by the father of the family was not stopped in time and went over the little boy’s shoe. According to information shared by the Langon gendarmerie, his right foot was caught in the propeller placed under the machine and was almost completely severed above the toes, at the level of the instep. The victim was taken care of by the rescuers around 12:30 p.m. before being transported in serious condition to the CHU Pellegrin in Bordeaux. According to firefighters on site, amputation is considered.

Accidents that can be avoided

Each year in France, more than 4.5 million people are victims of an accident in their everyday life, whether at home, at school or in playgrounds, and 20,000 people die as a result. The first victims are children and the elderly, so much so thatit is the leading cause of death in children aged 1 to 4 years. According to a survey carried out by OpinionWay for the mutual insurer GEMA Prévention, domestic accidents suffered by children represent 2,000 injuries per year and could have been avoided in 78% of cases.

This is why it is important to remember that each place or room in the house has its dangers. We invite you to remain vigilant.
