The abandonment of masks and protective gloves in public space has increased since the beginning of deconfinement.

It has been a real scourge since the beginning of deconfinement. In supermarket parking lots, in train stations, on the street or any other public space, there are many used masks, as well as gloves, to be left abandoned. These are health risks but also have an impact on the environment when we try, as best we can, to educate as many people as possible against pollution. This is why a deputy from the Les Républicains party, Éric Pauget, from the Alpes-Maritime region, has decided to table a bill this Monday, May 18, to combat this.

On Twitter, Eric Pauget announced that he wanted to increase the fine in the event of illegal dumping. He explains : "I have just tabled a bill to fight against the illegal deposit of used gloves and masks, on the public highway in order to reinforce the fight against these behaviors which induce significant health and environmental risks."

Currently, the fine in the event of illegal deposit is fixed at 68 euros and can reach 180 euros if the minutes are not paid on time. The deputy Éric Pauget proposes, him, to punish the violators of a PV of 300 euros. In his text, he also proposes to use video protection to punish people who throw their masks and gloves in public space. Member also wishes to strengthen municipal police forces for this purpose "by granting the quality of judicial police officer to the directors of municipal police and empowering municipal police officers, assistant judicial police officers, to carry out identity checks in this connection.
