In Detroit, United States, a man managed to flee from a gas station after recovering 3000 liters of gasoline at the pump without spending a single cent. The damage suffered amounts to approximately $3,000. The theft could only have been carried out in hacking the pump. Mo, owner of the station, explains that the thief “just opened the pump”. It is assumed that the hacker infiltrated the system with the Bluetooth connection of your smartphone.

Mo saw that something was wrong, but there was nothing he could do. “Every time we pressed the stop button on pump 3, nothing happened. We had to cut off all the pumps, we had emergency stops”. The man is not the only one to have benefited from the scheme since he would have warned other drivers so that they could help themselves after him. The exact hacking method is not known, especially since the Detroit police are very cautious: “We do not know what device was used, but we know that it is electronic,” specifies a spokesperson .

It is indeed possible to obtain devices to override the payment system fuel pumps. The police were able to spot the hacker via the surveillance cameras of the station and are still looking for him. In France, a man was recently convicted for purchasing €4,000 worth of fuel with a fake bank card.
