3:1 win against GC – Thanks to unleashed 2nd half: FCZ wins the Zurich Derby – Sport

  • FC Zurich beat the Grasshoppers 3-1 in the 277th Zurich derby.
  • GC are 1-0 up at the break, but still have to leave the field as losers.
  • In the second game on Saturday evening, Servette beat Lausanne-Sport 1-0.

For a long time things looked good for the Grasshoppers in the 277th Zurich derby, for a long time the promoted team could flirt with winning a point against leader FC Zurich. But in the 67th minute came the crucial scene that threw coach Giorgio Contini’s team off track. Hayao Kawabe made a fatal mistake, a back pass from the GC midfielder fell far short. Aiyegun Tosin gladly accepted the invitation and had no trouble putting the ball past GC keeper André Moreira, who stormed out, to make it 2-1.

As a result, the Grasshoppers were unable to react, the uncertainty about the annoying goal was too great. FCZ controlled what was happening in the last 20 minutes and clinched victory in the Letzigrund without any further problems. In the 83rd minute Wilfried Gnonto made everything clear with the 3:1.

Break lead for GC

The 3rd Zurich derby of the season also had a bitter déjà vu in store for the Grasshoppers. For the 3rd time this season, the newly promoted team was unable to leave the pitch as a winner despite being in the lead. Because on this Saturday evening the outsider was only in front. In the 43rd minute it was Dominik Schmid who made it 1-0 after a deflected cross from Bendeguz Bolla. For Schmid it was the first goal in the Super League.

The opening goal was the reward for a courageous, but also wild performance by the Grasshoppers in round number 1. However, the half-time score should not hide the fact that FCZ also had some top-class chances in the first 45 minutes. But both Fidan Aliti’s (25′) and Antonio Marchesano’s (36′) goals were disallowed for foul play and offside respectively.

The start of the second round could not have started any better for coach André Breitenreiter’s team. With the first offensive action, Assan Ceesay, who came on after the break, supplied the ball in the goal. The Gambier headed in a cross from Ousmane Doumbia. It should have been the start of an almost perfect FCZ halftime.

This is how it goes

While FC Zurich celebrates their 8th win in a row, the Grasshoppers have been waiting for a complete success for 4 games. With this success, the leader is also putting pressure on the direct competition from Basel and Bern and temporarily extends the lead at the top of the table to 10 points. FCB (against Sion) and YB (against St. Gallen) will then be in action on Sunday.

The Zurich clubs continue next weekend: The Grasshoppers are guests at Lausanne-Sport on Saturday, FCZ welcomes Lugano a day later.
