Scandinavia is sweating. June was already the hottest month in Finland since weather records began in 1844. In neighboring Sweden, the capital Stockholm set the third heat record for June in a row.
In Norway, the meteorological institute recorded on Sunday in Saltdal, in a district near the Arctic Circle, with 34 degrees the highest temperature measured in the whole country this year.
That is 1.6 degrees less than the country’s absolute temperature record. In several places in Norway there were recently «tropical nights» when the temperature did not drop below 20 degrees.
Heat records worldwide
Canada had already set a heat record last week, with temperatures of almost 50 degrees in the shade. According to a report released in May, global warming in the Arctic is currently three times faster than the rest of the planet.
The increase is even faster than previously assumed and there is no end in sight. (SDA)
