Boots, ankle boots, shoes with heels, sneakers or ballerinas? The French already know what we will be wearing on our feet in the coming autumn/winter season.

At least twice a year, our wardrobe, including the shoe cabinet, gets a stylish redesign. Inspiration for the new season comes from the international designers, who present their creations on the runways of this world, but also from our dearly beloved French women, who make fashion hearts beat faster with their street style.

Especially when it comes to the shoe trends of the coming autumn and winter season, we didn’t look into a crystal ball, but into the shoe closets of our stylish neighbors. Et voilà: Here are four shoe trends that French women don’t want to go without in autumn and winter.

1st trend: Mary Janes

They are the perfect transitional shoes: Mary Janes. The shoes in the form of ballerinas usually have a small, sturdy block heel and one or two straps. French women wear them with shorts and a knitted sweater on mild autumn days, and with tights, a miniskirt or a dress on colder days. We love the shoes too – especially in the patent version, they represent a wonderful contrast to robust pieces made of wool or knitwear.

2nd trend: Knee-high boots

Already in the last season we couldn’t avoid knee-high boots – and this year we continue to combine the trend pieces. Because the beauty of the classic boots with block heels is that they give a simple outfit that certain something in no time at all. Try it out: Choose a simple dress, combine it with knee-high boots and a light wool coat or trench coat – and you are prepared for all eventualities. Uncomplicated chic, that’s how the French love it too!

3rd trend: Classic ballerinas

What has long been considered a characteristic fashion feature is being reactivated this season: ballerinas. The classic among shoes has actually made it back into the wardrobes of French women, as influencer Sylvie Mus proves to us in a stylish manner. She combines a black example with an angular tip and hinted ruffles with black straight jeans and a cognac-colored leather jacket.

4th trend: retro sneakers

Instead of mothballing your sneakers with your summer wardrobe, you can safely leave them in the closet. Because they are also used on cooler days. The French influencers, such as Leia Sfez or Anne-Laure Mais, show us that we won’t get cold feet in it. They combine stylish tennis socks in white with sneakers from New Balance, Veja, Autry, Nike & Co. An XL wool coat with accentuated shoulders and a checked style gives the look a wintry touch.
