The gaming year 2021 has been behind us for a few weeks. But which games have sold particularly well in this country this year? GfK analyzed the numbers and created a top 3 German gaming bestseller. The result is surprising: Second place is now more than four years old.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Switch racer takes second place
The Switch was able to sell like hot cakes again this year. The compact handheld console may be showing its age, but that doesn’t seem to be having a negative impact on sales.
The same seems to apply to second place in the German gaming bestseller 2021 when you take a look at the evaluation by GfK Entertainment. According to the chart list, which is based on physical sales of the corresponding games, the four-year-old Mario Kart 8 Deluxe secure the silver medal for the Nintendo Switch. A complete success for Nintendo. (Source: GfK Entertainment)

Top 3: FIFA 22 dominates the charts, Mario takes bronze
In Germany, football counts as a national sport – apparently also in the gaming sector. FIFA 22 sold even better than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the latest installment in EA’s popular soccer series. In third place, however, is another Nintendo game for the switch: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. In addition to the main game, the remake of the Wii U classic offers an expansion in which Bowser has turned into a huge monster and must now be stopped.
By the way: According to GfK, the three games are not only Germany’s best-selling games, but coincide with the sales charts for Europe. Again, FIFA 22 takes first place, Mario Kart second, and Super Mario World third.
