Just don’t fall into this trap: the chaos of deadlines for the 49-euro ticket causes a lot of frustration
What was easy with the 9-euro ticket is unnecessarily complicated with the new start. The 49-euro ticket comes with complicated subscription terms and deadlines that are far from user-friendly. What buyers need to know now.
The 49-euro ticket is the successor to the 9-euro ticket, but apart from the price, there are important differences. Whatever the reason, the decision was made to only offer the 49-euro ticket as a subscription.
This is not a problem for long-term users, who should usually want a convenient ticket that is automatically renewed month after month, but why it is made so difficult for other users to simply buy a monthly ticket remains a mystery.
If you only want the 49-euro ticket for one month, you have to turn your head on your head and take out a subscription first and then immediately again quitbecause the legislature has anchored a monthly termination option.
But what is really annoying: There are deadlines that you have to meet when buying and also when canceling. Otherwise you might pay the Deutschlandticket, even though you don’t need it.
Germany ticket only in subscription
Word has already gotten around that the 49-euro ticket is a subscription that you pay monthly. Unlike the 9-euro ticket, which you could explicitly purchase for each month, as a customer you sign a contract with the Deutschlandticket and the ticket is then automatically renewed.
If you only look at regular users, then that fits, because if you drive every month anyway, you save yourself the repeated purchase. On the other hand, there is certainly a fixed target group of occasional users who might want to use the ticket on vacation. The first have a subscription on the cheek. After all, you can cancel monthly, but you have to do it in good time, otherwise the Deutschlandticket will be automatically extended.
Deadline for termination: Up to the 10th calendar day of the month
As you can read in the tariff regulations for the Deutschlandticket, a monthly cancellation is possible, but only if you meet the deadline.
Section 3 states:
The subscription is for an indefinite period and can be canceled monthly. The cancellation must be made by the 10th of the month to the end of the respective calendar month.
So if you want to use the 49-euro ticket in May but not in June, then you have to until May 10th cancel, otherwise the subscription will be automatically extended.
Deadline to Purchase: Join only on the 1st of each month
The order period is not as clearly defined as the termination. For 2023, the Deutschlandticket is valid on a monthly basis. That means there is one ticket for May, one for June, etc. From next year it should be billed on a daily basis, for example from May 15th to June 14th.
What sounds like a joke at first is an order deadline for digital tickets that do not come as chip cards. The Germany ticket can also only be bought in the apps for a limited period of time. The Berlin BVG, for example, sets a deadline of the 20th of the previous month. If you want to order the Germany ticket for May there now, you won’t get it anymore. In Munich, the MVG sets the deadline for the 25th of the previous month DB Navigator it is still possible to purchase the ticket for the next month by the end of a month.
But then it’s usually over. If you still want to buy the ticket for May in May, you’re out of luck. One advantage here, however, is that there are many purchase options for the 49-euro ticket. At mon.pla For example, there is currently not only a 10 euro discount, but you can also buy the ticket at any time for the current month. You can also cancel your subscription up to the penultimate day of the month. The app only needs 24 hours notice.
