  • Jasper Philipsen narrowly beats the competition in the mass sprint.
  • The Belgian puts Caleb Ewan and Phil Bauhaus in their place.
  • On the otherwise leisurely 4th stage of the Tour de France, 3 falls at the end cause excitement.

Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) sprinted to victory in the 4th section of the Tour de France from Dax to Nogaro. The Belgian threw everything in the balance in the final meters and won ahead of the Australian Caleb Ewan (Lotto Dystny) and the German Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious). For Philipsen it is already the 2nd victory in a row. Again he could count on Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck), who put him in position.

Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates) didn’t lose any time in the general classification and continues to wear the leader’s yellow jersey. However, he had nothing to do with the decision.

spectacle at the end

The 4th stage rippled along for 179 kilometers. None of the drivers dared to really attack, as an escape attempt on the flat stage was almost hopeless. With just under 2 kilometers to go, the pace picked up significantly.

However, this tightening did not end well for all drivers. There were 3 falls – with one prominent victim: Fabio Jakobsen (Soudal Quick Step). The European champion went down and sat for a few moments. However, it looked as if things could go on for the Dutchman.

For Luis Leon Sanchez and Jacopo Guarnieri, who fell badly in the final of the 4th stage, the 110th Tour de France came to an early end. The 39-year-old Spaniard and the four-year-old Italian both suffered broken collarbones that required surgery. Three minor rib fractures were also found in Guarnieri.

This is how it goes

The first mountain stage is scheduled for Wednesday. In the 5th section, the steep Col de Soudet and the Col de Marie Blanque await. Overall, the riders cover 162.4 km and 3400 meters of altitude on the route from Pau to Laruns. A breakaway group with strong climbing ability could provide the winner for the section.
