Serum, mascara, hair dryer brush – the list of products that we sometimes use every day is long. And the bathroom cabinet is accordingly packed. But while there are of course some goodies that we could safely do without (if we only wanted to), there are others that have fundamentally changed our everyday lives and therefore definitely shouldn’t be missing anymore. What is one of the real treasures in our editorial team’s beauty bag? We asked around ….

Editor Julika: “I never wore blush until I was 22, now I can’t do without it anymore”

It’s hard to believe, but yes: While the topic of skincare makes my heart beat faster, I’ve already tried out a lot when it comes to serums, treatments, etc. and rarely shy away from new things on my desk (sorry, dear skin!) I haven’t dared to try blush for a long time. I had severe acne for years – so my face was always pretty red, even without any help. Strengthen that even further? Definitely not. Red (and overly glowy, by the way) products are still something my insides shy away from for a millisecond due to old experiences. But the difference that rosy cheeks give to the face? Priceless. Until I “necessarily” had to spend two hours dealing with powder, cream and liquid blush at a master class, I wasn’t aware of HOW much fresher, healthier and more youthful rosy blushes would make me.

Since then, I can hardly wait to put on my make-up until the blush lands on my cheeks. I even use multiple textures or colors for the absolute blush effect. How would I ever go without it? I guess you’ll have to ask my 22-year-old self.

Editor Melanie: “My make-up has held up much better since then and no longer forms wrinkles.”

To keep my makeup from moving until the end of the day, I need powder. My problem: I don’t like powder at all! Neither the feeling on the skin nor the matt look impresses me. However, if I leave it out, my concealer slips into the wrinkles and the foundation transfers to my clothes. I used to always apply powder with a brush and spread it over a large area on my face. After a few hours I had to repeat the whole thing to keep the shine on my forehead, nose and chin at bay – did I mention I hate makeup touch-ups too?! No matter how you twist it, the powder and I never became friends. This relationship has changed since I started using a powder puff for setting.

With a powder puff I can work a small amount of powder into the skin exactly where I really need it. The firm surface allows me to really press it in, which really keeps it in place all day. Since then, my make-up has held up much better and no longer falls off in creases. In addition, the complexion is drawn much more finely than with a brush. The skin feels nice and light (if you don’t use too much and use a good powder). For me it’s really a revolution in my make-up game. And everyone has such a powder puff at home anyway, or it only costs a few euros. NEVER without it again!

Editor Hannah: “Monogamy was never an option for me. Until I met HIM!”

As fashion and beauty editors, testing products is one of our tasks. After all, we want to know exactly what we are reporting on. With the large selection of products, it is often difficult for me to stay loyal to a product – let alone buy it again once I have managed to use it all up.

But there is one product that I have been using for almost two years and have not once failed to use since then: the “BeYours Best enzymes balmCleanser from Trinny London. The Cleanser gives my skin the ultimate glow, removes any residue that the day brings with it and leaves my face soft and – a real rarity for me – not dried out. It’s not without reason that I just bought it for the fifth time.

Editor Linda: “Black was the motto for my eyelashes – now Lila is the New Black!”

I have tried many things in my past. Bright colors, unusual cuts and designs on clothing, different (sometimes more, sometimes less good-looking) hairstyles and of course I also tried my hand at statement beauty looks. At some point I caught myself in the madness of trying things out, but now you only notice smaller peculiarities in my looks, for example my eyelashes. Instead of black, I now wear purple mascara – and it makes a noticeable difference.

The “ControlledChaos MascaraInk” from Shiseido is my absolute beauty hero.

Only in the sunlight do the little hairs in eggplant sparkle, making dark eyes in particular shine. The colored mascara gives you an instant eye-catcher without being too bulky. My little signature moment, but subtle.

deputy Head of Beauty Friederike: “That changed EVERYTHING!”

There are three types of makeup products I’ve always enjoyed trying (and collecting): bronzer, eyeshadow, and foundation. While I’m still wildly switching between the first two, I hardly do any experiments when it comes to complexion anymore. Because I have found my dream product – or rather it is even a special category. Since last year I have been avoiding liquid complexion products and (almost) only use mineral foundations. My beautician gave me the tip because my skin was always prone to breakouts. So I stuck with it and now I can say: That was a game changer!

“I can never live without Mineral Foundation Powder again!”

Mineral foundations usually contain neither oils, perfumes nor preservatives that could irritate the skin. They also usually contain anti-inflammatory ingredients such as magnesium and zinc oxide. My hero product is the Mineral Foundation from Annabelle Minerals; but I can also highly recommend BareMinerals and IDUN Minerals. Since the texture of the mineral powder blends so well with the skin, I can even apply concealer over it without any problems and touch it up again throughout the day.
