Adriana Karembeu: miscarriage, IVF, frozen eggs… Her moving journey to becoming a mother


Becoming a mother has not been a smooth ride for Adriana Karembeu. After suffering several miscarriages, the Red Cross ambassador managed to become a mother at the age of 46. On August 17, 2018, the former model gave birth to a little girl, named Nina. In full promotion of his autobiography Freethe former accomplice of Michel Cymes spoke about her moving journey to becoming a mother in the columns of the magazine 7 Days TVavailable on newsstands from Monday May 6.

My desire to maternity arrived late, around 42 years old”, she explains. Because before, she did not feel ready despite her “great partners”, notably the footballer Christian Karembeu and the businessman Aram Ohanian. “After a miscarriage and two IVFs (in vitro fertilizations, editor’s note), I decided to freeze my eggs, and Nina came from one of these eggs”, she confides. A birth that she experienced as a gift from heaven. “I consider myself very lucky”, she assures.

Facing Isabelle Ithurburu, in 50′ inside, last Saturday May 4, Adriana Karembeu had already spoken about her late motherhood and her difficult journey to get pregnant. After reaching her forties, she explains that she asked doctors to find out what her chances of becoming a mother were. “6% of women after forty manage to have a child naturally”, she remembered. Before adding: “They told me that [allait] be very very very hard!“But faced with the low odds, Nina’s mother didn’t give up and threw herself into a fight.”I said to myself: ‘We’re going to fight this war!’ Because it really is a war. So yes, I underwent IVF [fécondation in vitro]miscarriages“, she said. Considering herself lucky, she nevertheless regrets “for waiting so long”. “Already because it was a miracle to get pregnant [à plus de quarante ans] but also because I would have loved to have several children. I tried, but it didn’t work“, she lamented.
