Released in November 2014, Marie Heurtin is inspired by real events that took place in France at the end of the 19th century. Born deaf and blind, Marie Heurtin, aged 14, is unable to communicate with the rest of the world. Her father, a modest craftsman, cannot bring himself to have her committed to an asylum as advised by a doctor who considers her “stupid”.
In desperation, he went to the Larnay institute, near Poitiers, where nuns took care of young deaf girls. Despite the skepticism of the Mother Superior, a young nun, Sister Marguerite, is determined to take care of the “little wild animal” that is Marie and to do everything to get her out of her night…
