5 tips for sorting your wardrobe

The change of seasons is the perfect time to sort out your wardrobe. And because the sun and the heat are back, there's no denying a fashion detox!

Spring is finally here, it's the perfect opportunity to sort out your wardrobe. But sometimes you don't really know where to start. And even if every morning your other half is entitled to your famous "I have nothing to wear", we must admit that it spills everywhere! That's good, it's the perfect time to treat yourself to a fashion detox. What pieces to keep? What are the parts that you should part with? We give you some tips and advice so that you can afford a top dressing room and above all better find your way around.

1. We do a radical sorting

The more the seasons go by, the more your wardrobe overflows? Rest assured, this is completely normal. So to save time in the morning when you only have a few minutes to get dressed, you prepare at least half a day to tidy up your dressing room efficiently. Because yes, it is not always easy to navigate with winter clothes alongside summer ones! To avoid looking for THE piece you want to wear for long minutes, first of all sort carefully between warm and light materials to keep only the essentials of the season and a few basics. If you fancy a nice wardrobe, you can also organize your clothes by category and color. You will see, it is a guaranteed time saver! A word of advice: keep garbage bags nearby to store clothes you no longer want to keep.

2. We make piles to navigate

To see yourself more clearly while sorting your closet, start by putting your clothes away by stacking them. Each year, there are bound to be pieces that you no longer want to wear and that you want to part with. In this case, the best is to make three piles: one that corresponds to the clothes you want to keep, one for the parts you no longer want and another for the parts that still make you hesitate.

Also remember to pack a bag for the clothes you plan to donate. Even if they are punctured or damaged, all items can be reused or recycled, provided they are left clean and dry. Shoes should be tied in pairs and everything should be placed in a tightly closed bag.

In addition to these three piles, try sorting your clothes by category. Jeans, dresses, t-shirts … it's all about keeping the right basics and not ending up with ten white t-shirts and five black jeans. Most importantly, keep the quality parts that you are sure to keep for years.

3. We make a decision with our friends

If you can never decide, invite your girlfriends over to help you make the right choice. And why not even swap his clothes? Sorting through your closets and renewing your wardrobe without spending anything, that's the whole point of bartering. In addition to being economical and ecological, barter is very easy to organize and it is also a great opportunity to meet up and share a great time with friends! Each one collects the clothes that she no longer wants, we meet at someone's house and we exchange the pieces.

Also remember to take garbage bags, then put the clothes that nobody wants and that you can give to the local Relais. Rather than throwing them away, your clothes can have a second life and that's pretty cool. Warning ! Before donating your clothes, always make sure that they are clean and dry.

4. We put the beautiful pieces aside

In your wardrobe, there are bound to be rooms that have a story. Pieces that you want to keep all your life because they have a certain meaning for you. If you don't feel like parting with them, buy or reuse boxes that you can easily store under your bed or in the cellar. You'll see, this will save a hell of a lot of space in your closet. Your first designer shoes or your first luxury bag, your evening dress for your brother's wedding … These are pieces like these that must be kept as "souvenirs".

If you find a pretty but old-fashioned piece, you can think of upcycling! This trend, which is simply to make new and beautiful with the old, allows you to give life to clothes you no longer wear. Finally, if some of your parts are damaged, feel free to repair them rather than throw them away. Having your clothes and shoes repaired can extend their lifespan. It’s smart, economical and ecological.

5. We move on to storage!

Once you've done a drastic sorting, it's time to put everything away. This is usually the coolest part! To find your way around it better, it is best to organize it by category and by color. If it's more convenient to fold your sweaters and T-shirts, it is better to hang your pants and dresses on hangers. If your hanger is visible, choose colored or white wooden hangers. Are you more DIY? You can customize your hangers by adding pretty glitter ribbons of different colors on the top of your hangers. You will see, your girlfriends will love the idea! For bags and shoes, you can either store them in boxes or display them in an organized way if your walk-in closet is open. It's your turn !
