Even though you often wash your clothes in the washing machine, it is not enough to completely disinfect them. Many add traditional bactericidal detergent during washing to disinfect clothes … However, the use of these chemicals, which are very bad for the environment, can cause allergies and irritate the skin (especially used on baby clothes) .

More importantly in this period of pandemic, disinfecting clothes is still essential. Fortunately, there are natural products that are just as effective for this (and in addition it costs less)! Here are 6 unstoppable tips to rid your laundry of germs and bacteria.

Tea tree oil

Thetea tree essential oil has many benefits. Antibacterial, antifungal and anti-odor … This extract from the leaves of the Melaleuca tree is a powerful natural disinfectant. It is an excellent solution to sanitize and perfume your laundry.

Simply add a tablespoon of tea tree oil to a liter bottle of household alcohol. Let stand in a bottle, then add 1 or 2 tablespoons of this preparation in your machine, for 5 kilos of laundry.

Grapefruit seed extract

Grapefruit seed extract is an excellent natural disinfectant. Just pour 5 to 10 drops into 4 liters of water, then let the laundry soak for 15 to 30 minutes. Then rinse it off with lukewarm water. After this operation, wash your laundry in the machine as usual.

Sodium percarbonate

Sodium percarbonate comes in granular form and works thanks to the presence of oxygen. It is able to remove all stains, even the most difficult. Very effective for disinfecting laundry, it is however recommended not to use it on delicate clothing such as wool, silk or leather, which it risks attacking.

In the washing machine, just add a tablespoon to your usual laundry. It is an excellent disinfectant, antifungal and antibacterial that will also restore shine to your dull clothes.

Baking soda

We no longer present it, baking soda is very effective throughout the house. Inexpensive, its properties have multiple: excellent germicide, antibacterial, disinfectant and anti-odorant. Add two tablespoons of baking soda to your laundry soaking water or directly into the washing machine drum. The important thing is to never mix vinegar and baking soda as they will inactivate each other.

The vinegar

Vinegar is a good disinfectant, as well as a natural degreaser and deodorant. Useful for removing even the most stubborn stains, it also fixes colors in the first wash. To disinfect your clothes, just soak them in a bowl with hot water and half a cup of white vinegar. Then wash them in the machine as usual.

The lemon

Lemon is a great ally for disinfecting and perfuming laundry. Just add a few drops to the washing machine drum with your regular detergent.

If you have soft, delicate woolen clothes, simply let them soak for a whole day in a solution of water and lemon juice (2 lemons per liter of water). To revive the silk, just soap it, rinse it and let it soak for a few hours in water and lemon juice.
