60 years, 120 films and 1 Oscar: will this iconic action movie star soon be back on screen?

After “Dream Scenario”, released in theaters in December 2023, when will we see Nicolas Cage in the cinema again? We take stock of the 60-year-old actor’s projects.

After a long journey through the desert, Nicolas Cage has found strength in recent years with Pig, A Talent in Solid Gold, Renfield and the recent Dream Scenario. Oscar winner for Leaving Las Vegas in 1996, the 60-year-old actor is enjoying a wonderful artistic resurrection.

Will Nicolas Cage continue this momentum? We take stock of the actor’s next projects. After his remarkable performance in Dream Scenario, released last December, the artist will return to the cinema on July 10 in a horror thriller: Longlegs, directed by Oz Perkins.

A Machiavellian serial killer

This time, Nicolas Cage will not play a nice professor with glasses but a dangerous serial killer. The latter will be hunted down by Lee Harker, an FBI agent played by Maika Monroe, the revelation of It Follows.

“Oz Perkins is pretty strong in the horror genre at the moment. He’s made some really good films. Gretel & Hansel was great. I play a character who hears voices. It’s a bit like a possessed Geppetto who makes dolls “indicated Nicolas Cage at the microphone of Fangoria.

We will then find the actor in another very exciting project on paper: The Surfer. Already shot, this project is currently in post-production. Directed by Lorcan Finnegan, to whom we owe Vivarium and The Nocebo Effect, the film is a thriller bringing together Nicolas Cage and Julian McMahon.

Surfers will be expensive

The plot follows a man returning to his seaside hometown in Australia. He is humiliated in front of his son by a gang of local surfers who claim absolute ownership of his childhood beach. Wounded, he decides to stay on the beach, declaring war on those who control the bay.

Finally, a third project is in the hands of our friend Nicolas Cage, and not the least: Lords of War. In 2006, Andrew Niccol made the actor an arms dealer in the acclaimed Lord of War, giving him one of his best roles in the process.

18 years later, the two men will do it again, which did not fail to surprise more than one when the information was announced last May. In this feature film, which does not yet have a release date, Yuri Orlov will find himself struggling with his son (played by Bill Skarsgard) whose existence he discovers.

Lord of War

He is trying to follow in his footsteps by sending an army of mercenaries to resolve American problems in the Middle East. If we could fear that it was one of these projects announced before never moving forward, the filming of Lords of War could take place in 2024, and for a duration of forty days, according to its producer Karim Debbagh, currently looking for places:

“We want to cover four or five African countries, such as Libya, Egypt, Senegal and Mali, and several countries in the Middle East, and we found almost everything in Morocco”he told Variety last December.

“Casablanca itself is so diverse that you can find places that look like Senegal and others that are as lush as a neighborhood in California. And if you’re looking for places that look like Libya, Yemen or to Syria, you can find them in or around Marrakech.” The producer does not give a precise date for the start of filming, but it could happen quickly.

Furthermore, Benjamin Gates fans are still waiting for a 3rd part, which does not seem to be on the agenda at all. However, Nicolas Cage still thinks about it. “I really like these films, they’re fun. And I think Jon Turteltaub staged some classics for the whole family”he told Deadline.

“It still fascinates me a little that Disney didn’t want to make a third one. I thought the films brought a lot of joy to the audience, and they were interesting from a historical point of view. I think all that was worth filming”specified Nicolas Cage.
