Decorating the Christmas tree has become a tradition in many families. This is where common mistakes creep in that we often don’t even recognize. We reveal how your Christmas tree will steal the show this year!
7 common Christmas tree mistakes
1. Christmas tree baubles or figures? Wood or glass elements? Incorrect!
You might think that you have to choose when it comes to Christmas tree decorations. After all, there are so many different pendants, some glitter, others are made of wood – that doesn’t fit, does it?! A misconception: Feel free to combine different materials! This makes the tree look much more exciting. In addition, your Christmas tree will at best tell a real story if you combine decorations that you have accumulated over the years.
2. The tree doesn’t match the decoration
What many people forget: Every conifer has a different color. While the Nordmann fir comes in a classic dark green, the blue spruce, as its name suggests, has a more bluish shimmer. Then there are trees whose needles even glow silver-grey. The important thing is that the decoration must match the color of the tree. While strong green needles go well with warm and golden tones, bluish-silver trees harmonize better with pastel or silver tones. By the way, they were already there black Christmas trees on trend.
3. You decorate yourself in danger
When it comes to the Christmas tree, you really want to go crazy with kitsch – we understand. Finally, we can now hang anything sparkly that we stay away from throughout the year for style reasons on the tree. However, we shouldn’t overload the good piece. There are two reasons for this: Firstly, you should still be able to see the green tree between all the balls. On the other hand, too much jewelry increases the risk of fire. Therefore, make sure that there is at least 25 centimeters of space between real candles and branches or figurines hanging above them. A candle radiates more heat than you think and we really don’t need a fire at Christmas.
4. You forget the most important decorations
The most important tree decoration is under the tree and is called a water bucket. Fire spreads incredibly quickly, which is why every second counts in an emergency – if you have a bucket of water ready, you can avoid the drama and be more relaxed at the same time. You can decorate the bucket too – or use fake candles directly.
5. You’re decorating in the wrong order
The Christmas tree is a one-way street – when it comes to decorating and lighting candles. Both should only happen from top to bottom. First comes the string of lights, then the balls, and finally the candles if necessary. Who wants to get their hair caught in Christmas tree baubles or even scorched? 6. There used to be more tinsel? Good this way!
On the one hand, a Christmas tree with a lot of tinsel quickly appears overloaded, so that you can no longer see other decorative items. On the other hand, we also think a little about the environment at Christmas – and if we bring nature into the house, we don’t have to cover it all over with glittering plastic strips, right?
7. The Christmas tree is neatly decorated
Many people find themselves following a certain structure when decorating – large balls belong downwards and outwards, the colors alternate obediently. Decorate against your pattern! A perfect Christmas tree has character. If you mix large and small balls, the decoration looks much more inviting and varied to the eye. You can also decorate inside the tree and not just at the tips of the branches, which creates depth. Have fun! Because there are finally no rules for your own taste – except yours.
