  • Broadcom’s current virtualization software is now free for private users.
  • Previously, up to 200 euros were due for a license.
  • In addition to the VMware Workstation for Windows and Linux, you can also get VMware Fusion Pro for Mac for free.

Every PC owner knows how expensive Windows software can be. There are plenty of examples, such as image editing programs such as Photoshop or audio software such as Magix Music Maker. It’s even nicer when a manufacturer completely turns this business model on its head. Broadcom is now doing exactly that and is now making its VMware Workstation 17 Pro software available free of charge.

As Broadcom announced, the license costs will now be waived for all private users. The program is only still subject to a fee for commercial users. An astonishing step when you consider that up to 208 euros were previously due for the software license, as we determined through a price comparison (miser).

With VMware’s virtualization software, you can set up other “virtual” operating systems on your Windows 10 or Windows 11 operating system in parallel and experiment with them to your heart’s content. You can even work with different Linux versions. By the way: VMware Workstation can also be installed on Linux systems.

You still need a subscription in any case. Of course, this doesn’t cost you anything as a private user. We provide you with a download for VMware Workstation on Netzwelt. Alternatively, according to the manufacturer, you can also download the latest build via the download portal linked here.

VMware Workstation

With VMware Workstation it is possible to use multiple operating systems on one computer at the same time. You can find out how it works on Netzwelt.

Apple fans don’t miss out either, because the Mac version of VMware Workstation, VMware Fusion Pro (13), also switches to the new free model. Here you can also get the license for free as a private user, but commercial use still requires payment.
