8 easy-going plants that don’t mind the heat

Don’t want to see your plants wither this summer when it is very hot? That’s great, here are 8 plants that don’t require too much maintenance and that easily resist heat!

Oleander

Oleander is a plant that loves heat and sun. The more there are, the more pretty flowers it will give you! It is planted between October and April and flowers from May to October, if well maintained. To be fully developed, the oleander needs to be planted in a well-ventilated place, a well-drained soil rich in humus. But beware ! If it does not fear heat at all, it is a plant that does not fear frost. If it is in a pot, we advise you to put it in when the temperature drops below 10 ° C. If it is outside, consider protecting it with a winter cover.

Lavender

If you fancy a plant that is easy to live with and requires very little maintenance, we recommend lavender! Lavender is a small shrub that likes a warm, sunny climate. It does not fear heat or sunshine and adapts to all spaces. In a massif, isolated in the middle of the lawn, on the edge of the terrace, lavender is able to find its place everywhere! It is not afraid of the heat wave, will sublimate and perfume your garden from June to August. You can even go on vacation without fear, lavender does not like excess water and lives very well on its own.

Agave

Agave is a succulent plant that loves heat, sun and arid locations. It is a plant that comes straight from Mexico, so it supports very high temperatures, but hardly tolerates negative ones. If you live in the South, this is THE plant for you! It requires little maintenance, little water and beautifully decorates your garden. To flourish, this succulent needs full sun exposure, a light, non-calcareous and above all well-drained soil, and mild winter temperatures (minimum 5 ° C). In pots, the agave plant is planted in a pot of a beautiful volume, equipped with drainage holes.

Myrtle

If you love pretty white flowers, you will love myrtle! Recognizable by its small dark berries, myrtle grows in full sun and flowers in early summer. It is a plant that also requires little maintenance, although it is however necessary to water it once a week moderately. For its development, it is recommended to fertilize it once a month. But beware, the myrtle tolerates light frosts in winter.

The Palm tree

Unsurprisingly, the palm tree is one of those plants that love the sun and are not afraid of the heat! Very robust, it resists everything. And if we love it, it is above all because it irresistibly evokes the holidays with its long leaves and its trunk covered with small scales. Placed at the entrance of a house, in the middle of the garden … The palm tree will transform your garden into a real little tropical paradise! If you are planning to grow in a container, choose a very large container as most palms need room to set up their roots. Avoid containers with water reserves because the palm tree does not tolerate excessive moisture at the roots.

Jasmine

A very fragrant climbing plant, jasmine adores summer, a period during which it begins to flower. It withstands the very hot summer heat and its pretty white flowers decorate gardens wonderfully, trellised against a wall or even climbed on an arbor or pergola. Jasmine is a tropical plant, so it is necessary to protect it from very cold winters by covering its leaves with a veil and mulching its foot. Jasmine calls for deep, fertile, cool and well-drained soil. In summer, it also requires generous and regular watering.

Cistus

The cistus is an essential shrub in Mediterranean gardens. Robust and easy to maintain, it flowers abundantly from the first rays of sun, from April to July. It is absolutely not afraid of heat, and prefers dry soils. Well installed in the sun, you will not need to take care of it! The cistus makes its quiet little life, it grows in full sun and only in well-drained soil. And don’t be afraid of winter, in drained soil, cistus can resist down to -10 or -15 ° C.

Rosemary

If you dream of an aromatic plant at home that does not require maintenance, we recommend rosemary! This aromatic plant is particularly hardy since it supports heat as well as cold. And this is its main strength, it is able to acclimate to a dry climate, exposure to full sun and high temperatures without problem. Watering, except when planting, is not necessary in the ground. On the planting side, rosemary is planted in any type of soil, provided it is well drained. Avoid rich land that is too humid and reserve a sunny area.
