8 years after its launch, Dogecoin (DOGE) publishes its very first roadmap

Dogecoin (DOGE) releases its very first roadmap

The publication of this roadmap is a particularly obvious sign that things have changed for Dogecoin. Memecoin was indeed only that for a long time: a joke developed by a handful of amateurs, before they abandoned the project. Dogecoin could have ended up like other memecoins, in oblivion, if Elon Musk had not sparked a wave of enthusiasm for cryptocurrency this year.

Since then, the development of Dogecoin has resumed, supported by the billionaire who linked it to a SpaceX project. The Dogecoin Foundation was reopened last August, with the presence of notable advisers, including Vitalik Buterin, the co-creator of Ethereum (ETH). The idea is to diversify the uses of DOGE, which would feed a larger ecosystem. In any case, this is clearly apparent from the roadmap published by the Dogecoin teams a few days ago.

Staking on Dogecoin?

What therefore emerges from this roadmap (called for the occasion ” trailmap “) Of Dogecoin? One of the biggest announcements is the arrival possible staking on Dogecoin. The press release states:

The Foundation also works with Vitalik [Buterin] to create a truly “doge” proposition: a version community du staking through Proof of Stake, which will allow everyone […] to participate in a way that rewards them.

DOGE’s staking is therefore probably on the horizon, if the proposal is accepted by the community. The news would be a small revolution for Dogecoin, which currently works with Proof of Work. But if there is one person who understands the issues (and the difficulties…) linked to the transition to a staking model, it is the creator of Ethereum.

Make Dogecoin more accessible

Among the other projects mentioned, we find the creation of “libdogecoin”, that is to say a library that will allow anyone to create products based on Dogecoin. Here again, the idea is to democratize uses: it is to provide access to simplified tools, which do not require expertise in functions related to cryptocurrency.

This is the main axis of development, still according to the Dogecoin roadmap:

We believe that by taking the essential functionalities of Dogecoin, and making them available as a simple C library, with attachment points with several languages, we multiply the innovation capacities of the community.

This will be developed together with a “Dogecoin Standard”, that is to say, specification and validation standards that document these changes, and clarify the needs for all those who want to get started in this new ecosystem.

Other developments were also mentioned. Dogecoin will give its official website a facelift, and publish sat “Dogepedia”, that is, a complete FAQ to gather information about the project.

GigaWallet: a solution to integrate the payment service

Another major development is the “GigaWallet”. It aims to simplify the integration of Dogecoin payment services on third-party applications and sites:

The GigaWallet project is an open source initiative that aims to bridge the gap by offering a node / API solution which can be set up in seconds and allow a developer to add Dogecoin transactions to their platform.

All of this can be summed up in one idea, which the roadmap emphasizes: by developing new use cases for Dogecoin, adoption of cryptocurrency will follow. In any case, the ambitions of the project have been clearly raised. What to support its presence in the top of the most capitalized cryptocurrencies of the moment? The future will tell…
