80 post offices “could not reopen” due to destruction and risks, according to La Poste

Nearly 80 post offices “could not reopen due to destruction or risk to staff and customers present” following the nights of riots, La Poste told AFP on Tuesday.

Among them, establishments in Poitiers, Rouen and Lyon in particular, said La Poste.

Of the 7,000 post offices present on the national territory, 150 were “impacted” and 80 La Banque Postale ATMs were “destroyed”.

“The damage is sometimes very significant since certain establishments have been set on fire resulting in the destruction of the letters and parcels present”, further indicated La Poste.

All post offices have a La Banque Postale counter, where 1.5 million recipients come to collect their social benefits every 6th of the month.

A hundred public buildings have been degraded or destroyed in Île-de-France by the riots of recent days, according to a count of the region which will vote on Wednesday an emergency fund of 20 million euros for town halls and shops.
