Smaller amounts of other illegal narcotics were also confiscated from travelers in the second year of the corona pandemic in cooperation with the Federal Office of Customs and Border Security (BAZG), the Zurich cantonal police said on Sunday.
A year earlier, Zurich officials had seized 1,600 kilograms of khat, 83 kilograms of cannabis products, 42 kilograms of cocaine, around one kilogram of heroin and 8,000 amphetamine tablets.
Most of the 35 people arrested were from Europe, South America and Africa. The drugs were shipped from Entebbe (Uganda), Punta Cana (Domenican Republic), Johannesburg (South Africa), Tel Aviv (Israel), Nairobi (Kenya), Barcelona and Jerez de la Frontera (Spain), and Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo (Brazil ) imported, as the police continue to write.
In further checks, 14 million francs in cash and 60 kilograms of gold were also checked for their origin. This would have resulted in several “securities and criminal investigations, including for money laundering”.
