After Michael left last week due to the backstage dismissal of comedian Rockmond Dunbar, have 9-1-1 fans just witnessed the farewell of a star character from the series?

Faced with Christopher’s anguish, worried about seeing his father perish one day in the line of duty, Eddie (Ryan Guzman) has indeed made an unexpected announcement to Buck (Oliver Stark) and his fellow firefighters in episode 10 of season 5, broadcast this evening on M6: he leaves barracks 118 and is about to make a career change for the good of his son.

But does this mean that Ryan Guzman will, in turn, leave 9-1-1, in which he has been playing since season 2?

The answer is no. Eddie will continue to appear in the series, but his role will be different since he will join the ranks of the 911 emergency call center as a communications officer, responsible in particular for alerts on social networks intended for residents of Los Angeles.

A new position that Eddie will have a hard time getting used to, despite his desire to offer Christopher a more serene life, as French viewers of 9-1-1 will be able to discover next week on M6.

Ryan Guzman (Eddie) and Oliver Stark (Buck) in 9-1-1

“We ended the Christmas episode with the announcement of Eddie revealing he’s leaving 118, and it’s a big change that I’m sure has annoyed a lot of viewers”confided the producer of the series Kristen Reidel to Entertainment Weekly at the time of the broadcast of this episode in the United States. “But it’s something important and we have to honor it in the storylines”.

“We’re going to follow this new trajectory for Eddie in future episodes. He’s not doing well, and it’s better for him that he doesn’t have other people’s fates in his hands right now. He needs to work on himself.

Eddie’s discomfort hides indeed a very deep post-traumatic shock which will be revealed during the next episodes of 9-1-1. Will the young dad be able to overcome his demons and get better? And will he find his job as a firefighter by the end of season 5? Answer soon on M6.
