Protesters climbed the border wall and threw stones, the Lebanese state news agency NNA reported on Tuesday.
The Israeli troops fired tear gas and smoke grenades. At least five demonstrators were injured, it said. Others passed out or suffered from shortness of breath. The demonstrators protested against Israel’s military crackdown on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The south of Lebanon is controlled by the Shiite Hezbollah. The organization, which is closely allied with Iran, sees Israel as an archenemy. There are always tensions on the border between the two countries. At least one demonstrator was fatally injured there by Israeli tank fire on Friday.
