According to their own statements, the Lucerne police unnecessarily fired three rubber shots before the game between FC Lucerne and Hibernian Edinburgh.
Nobody was injured. According to the police, the use of rubber shot is being critically examined.
After a verbal warning against Scottish fans, the rubber shot was used. “According to initial findings, this shooting at a distance would not have been necessary,” writes the Lucerne police in the statement.
Also used water cannon
The Scottish fans would not have followed the instructions of the Lucerne police on the way to the stadium. Water cannons were also used. Several identity checks were carried out on Wednesday evening, it is said. Around half a dozen people were then expelled from the old town.
The game had previously been classified as a high-risk game. The police stations remained closed throughout the canton of Lucerne because, according to the police, the officers were needed in the vicinity of the football game.

A previous version of this article talked about gunshots. The media release from the Lucerne police called a “shot fired at a distance” and “three shots”. When asked, a police spokesman said that it was rubber shot. We have now adjusted this accordingly.
