In the so-called wolf mask trial, a court in Germany sentenced the defendant to twelve years’ imprisonment and placement in preventive detention on Tuesday for raping an eleven-year-old girl.
The man had admitted that he had dragged the girl into the bushes and raped her in broad daylight in Munich in 2019, disguised with a wolf mask. A nightmarish act that made headlines far beyond Munich – and which the defendant confessed right at the beginning of the trial. However, traces of DNA had also been found, which the investigators had brought on his trail in the first place.
The perpetrator had a criminal record
According to the indictment, he ambushed the then eleven-year-old in June 2019. The public prosecutor had demanded 14 years imprisonment and subsequent preventive detention. The alleged perpetrator is a man with a relevant criminal record who was admitted to psychiatry after several sexual offenses and whose conditions had only recently been relaxed.
In contrast to the public prosecutor’s office, the defense assumed a reduced guilty capacity due to a mental illness. In her plea, she had requested placement in a psychiatric hospital.
