Love or foreign worlds: These films offer some distraction in the corona crisis

At no time should the power of entertainment be underestimated during the Corona crisis. Where currently increasing numbers of infected people and victims dominate the news and gnaw massively on the morale of everyone, some films offer a remedy for at least a few hours. This remedy has many names – distraction, refuge, consolation or escapism into foreign worlds that have nothing to do with the currently gray reality. Here are a few stripes in the offer of the large streaming platforms or from the home cinema, which hopefully will make you forget the corona madness for a short time.

What a heart

"Love is all you need" was not something the Beatles knew. A wide variety of films currently provide a kind of heartache for Netflix or Amazon Prime. However, all of the items listed here are united by a guarantee that is currently so welcome and that has become a luxury these days – that of a happy ending.

There is, for example, the declaration of love for people and music called "Can A Song Save Your Life" (Amazon Prime) with Mark Ruffalo (52) and Keira Knightley (34). He mimics a music producer, she a talented rough diamond that has to be cut. A wonderful film with great and touching music. If you also want to dance "dirty", switch to Netflix and watch "Dirty Dancing"!

Thanks to "It doesn't get any better" there is also a double Oscar-winning, coarse-witty romance to see. Both Jack Nicholson (82) and Helen Hunt (56) dusted off a gold boy for their performance of obsessive-neurotic disgust and the overwhelmed single mother. At the same time, they sent the beautiful message: It is never too late for love. Also good alternatives: love of triangles in "Bridget Jones: Chocolate for breakfast", the German road movie "Im Juli" (Amazon Prime each) with Moritz Bleibtreu (48), or charming flirt coaching in "Crazy Stupid Love" (Netflix).

Humor is when you laugh anyway

Laughter is healthy and must also be in serious times in order not to be completely cloudy. If you want to use your smile muscles far from any reality, there is no getting around the wonderfully weird film "The Mask" with Jim Carrey (58), which is currently available on Netflix. Those who do not have to or can not snort at Carrey's grimace parade could instead go on a wild journey through time. All three parts of "Back to the Future" are also available there and take you into the 50s, the "Future" (the year 2015 …) or the Wild West.

If you want to embark on a bizarre hero journey along with a bowling alley and lots of White Russian, check out "The Big Lebowski" on Amazon Prime. There would also be the classic "The Truman Show", which has very little to do with the "real world" of these days (and otherwise). Just like Wes Anderson's (50) beautifully animated and hilarious film "The Fantastic Mr. Fox", which takes you into the world of diverse forest dwellers.

Off to the far, far away galaxy – or middle earth

"Foreign worlds" – a good point. Nowhere else in the world can the problems in the world be forgotten as briefly as during a trip to fantastic places. If you want to pass some time or dark thoughts, you can take another look at the career of a young magician named Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe, 30). Or in "Lord of the Rings" with Frodo (Elijah Wood, 39) and his companions make the arduous journey towards Mordor.

Thanks to the newly launched streaming service Disney +, all users in this country can once again venture into a galaxy far, far away with three trilogies and various spin-offs from the "Star Wars" saga. In the course of this, it makes sense to look at the collected adventures of the individual Avengers again or to catch up. Strictly speaking, they take place on Earth, but thanks to superhero power they have surprisingly little to do with reality.

The nice thing about all these examples: Although none of them explicitly deals with the topic of a pandemic, people can still draw courage and strength from them on a metaphorical level during the Corona crisis. Because no matter whether a dark wizard, a world destroyer or the empire targets the righteous civilians – in the end, if everyone holds together and pulls together, even the greatest threat can be overcome.
