The pyro smoke from last weekend has only just cleared, and the next bang is already coming. This time in the form of a communiqué from the Swiss Football League.
Formulated cautiously and yet clearly in the statement: The League Committee is launching the discussion with the clubs about the closure of the guest sectors in the Super League stadiums.
That’s an announcement! It would be a blatant measure, a deep cut into the existing Swiss football fan culture. The discussions about possible measures against ultra riots have been going on for a long time, of course. The fact that the announcement is coming so quickly from the SFL is a good sign.
It is a sign that the league and clubs have understood and must act now. Otherwise they run the risk of sponsors or “real” fans turning away from them. Because riots are poison for the product “Swiss football”.
The certification requirement has recently led to protests from the fan curves. A foretaste of what would happen with the introduction of personalized tickets.
There had to be further incidents before the next solution could be specifically evaluated – the closure of the guest sectors in the stadiums.
The exam is a first step in the right direction. Now we are waiting for the paper tiger to become a resolution.
