Matthew McConaughey: Hollywood star hosts bingo night with seniors

The corona virus hits older people particularly hard: they are not only a risk group, but can no longer receive visitors due to the ban on contacts in many countries. That is why many retirement homes can come up with funny activities to strengthen the community among the elderly, even in times of corona isolation. The "Enclave at Round Rock" in Texas recently received prominent support for this: Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey (50, "Mud") moderated a virtual bingo evening.

"Our residents had a lot of fun"

"We would like to thank Matthew, his wife Camila and his mother Kay for the virtual bingo evening," the retirement home writes on its Facebook page. "Our residents had a lot of fun playing and really enjoyed talking to Matthew about his roots and favorite drink." A video shows that the Texan-born McConaughey was very enthusiastic. "I-24, does anyone have I-24?" he calls around the group via video chat – much to the delight of an elderly gentleman who waving his game sheet victoriously in front of the camera.

Bingo has been exciting people of all ages for almost 100 years. For the game you need a moderator who pulls numbers out of a pot one after the other and reads them out. The players can then check them off on their playing cards – the winner is the one who has completely ticked off a row vertically, horizontally or diagonally.
