Amid rumors about the next smart phone
from vivo, the NEX 5, sits a 5x periscope zoom.

Under this impressive name is in fact a technology already known, but always pleasant to discover on a technical sheet.

What is a periscopic zoom?

If you don’t know the term yet, you might think that vivo has the incredible future innovation in the world of smartphone photography, according to recent leaks. But you should know that some smartphones already use it, such as the Huawei P40 Pro released in 2020 or more recently the Samsung Galaxy S21+, to name a few. But the fact remains that integration into a smartphone at the “content” price remains great news for the market.

The advantage of integrating a periscopic zoom into a smartphone is clear: to gain finesse. Unlike a more classic optical zoom, the periscope is built horizontally under the smartphone. The stacking of lenses and mirrors is therefore no longer done from bottom to top, but from left to right (or vice versa). Other advantages are on the program with this type of material: little or no lens distortion and better overall quality above all.

What else we know about the vivo NEX 5

The technology behind the camera of the vivo NEX 5 is not the only leaked data. According to Digital Chat Station, the brand’s future smartphone would be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 , the best consumer mobile processor at the moment. The screen of the device could meanwhile be quite massive with a diagonal of 7 inches (old rumors spoke of 6.78 inches) and the whole thing could be water resistant.

On the battery side, the only information leakers have for the time being concerns wireless charging, which could reach 50 W. Here again, old information spoke rather of 40 W.
