Royal Video: Queen Elizabeth reveals her favorite pop song

The queen as a party animal? There is reportedly one hit that made her immediately storm the dance floor. In the video you can see which song even sweeps the Queen of England away!

Nobody would ever blame the Queen for exuding too much uninhibited zest for life. And that's totally okay, because firstly, Elizabeth II is a stately 94 years old, and secondly, she is literally the Queen of England and through this job she is committed to exuding state-supporting elegance and dignity. But behind the facade, of course, the Queen also has a sense of humor – and a touch of rhythm in her blood. It has now been confirmed that the Queen very much likes to swing the dance floor; especially with her favorite pop song.

Big band, Beatles and TakeThat

You have to bear in mind that the Queen has seen practically the entire history of modern pop music. When she was born, the world was still enthusiastic about jazz; when she was crowned queen in 1951, rock 'n' roll hadn't really gotten going as a genre of its own. During her tenure, she was firsthand as British bands like the Rolling Stones and The Beatles made rock history. In the 1970s she was the queen targeted by the punk pioneers of the Sex Pistols with their version of "God Save the Queen". In the course of the 80s and 90s, British pop became a global phenomenon in addition to rock, including the musical landscape we know today.

"Lizzie's" favorite song

The idea that the Queen only listened to the Philharmonic Orchestra in Buckingham Palace for all of modern music history is absurd: of course, the Queen of England also has a favorite pop song. But, surprise: It doesn't come from an English band, as you might assume. Instead, the Queen loves a worldwide hit from another European country – and it is actually clear at a glance what she appreciates so much about this one song. In the video above you can see which song it is.
