Crime scene: Pumping: Is it worth turning on the opening thriller from Vienna?

The new crime season is heralded with the "Tatort: Pumps" from Vienna. The case leads Moritz Eisner and Bibi Fellner to a fitness studio.

Finally some new thrillers! The "Tatort" reports back from the summer break on Sunday (September 6th) from 8:15 pm on the first. In "Pumps", the Viennese investigator duo Moritz Eisner (Harald Krassnitzer, 59) and Bibi Fellner (Adele Neuhauser, 61) go on a hunt for criminals in a fitness studio. Forbidden substances, a beaten police officer and social fraud make for exciting twists and turns and a surprising ending in the latest case from Austria.

This is what "Tatort: Pumps" is all about

The body of a man is found next to the train tracks, Moritz Eisner and Bibi Fellner are called to the crime scene. The commissioners can quickly rule out a suicide in the case of the dead Iovan Savic (Kevin Stütz). The investigations lead to a small fitness studio in Vienna, where the dead man often trained. When searching for a possible motive for murder, Eisner and Fellner encounter several inconsistencies.

How can an unemployed person afford a sports car? And what about the various e-mail addresses on his laptop? But not only that: In the gym, anabolic steroids are obviously used in addition to weights for the perfect figure. Did Savic trade in the substances and was murdered as a result?

In addition to the professional challenges, the investigators also have to struggle in their private lives. While Eisner has self-doubts about his character, Fellner has problems with their new relationship. She fears that she has fallen for the wrong guy once more …

Is it worth switching on?

The latest case from the Austrian capital is a worthy start to the "Tatort" anniversary season. In "Pumps" one socially relevant topic follows the next: From illegal substances in weight training to drug trafficking to social fraud, everything is included. Together with the inspectors, the viewer plunges into criminal worlds in which there are neither scruples nor boundaries. The explosive topics and unexpected twists and turns ensure that the tension curve doesn't flatten for a second during the almost 90 minutes.

The story is a bit more complex than the Viennese team is used to, but the viewer can easily follow the narrative. Despite the many individual aspects that are taken up in the case, the story does not lose its credibility. This is due on the one hand to the great script by Karin Lomot and Robert Buchschwenter, and on the other to the acting performance of the protagonists. Harald Krassnitzer and Adele Neuhauser also shine in their 23rd joint case in their parade roles. Charm, wit and a large portion of Viennese humor await the fans of the Austro duo as usual.

In addition to the murder investigation, Bibi Fellner's love life also plays a bigger role this time. The otherwise hardened inspector is unusually open and the audience even catches a glimpse into the bedroom – including nude scenes.

How the case will end in the end remains open until the end. An exciting showdown then brings an extra portion of spice to the "crime scene" and ensures an emotional moment between the two main actors that gets under your skin. This start into the new season, in which the 50th anniversary is celebrated, should rekindle the Sunday “crime scene” lust.
