The last burglary at a jeweler on the main square in Oberwart was shortly before the outbreak of the pandemic. In February 2020, burglars tried to smash the armored glass on the outer display window of the alarm-secured shop at around 3 a.m. “The armored glass was damaged, but held up,” the police said at the time. The perpetrators had to flee without taking any booty. Display emptied Now that the corona measures had long since been relaxed, burglars struck again in a jewelry store on the main square right next to the district court in Oberwart. During the night on Monday they cleared the display. The strangers were mainly after valuable watches. Dozens of timepieces and pieces of jewelery fell into their hands.
