Father of the Bride: Steve Martin rounds up the Banks family again

25 years after the last "Father of the Bride" movie, Steve Martin's cast celebrated a reunion. This time too they said yes.

Moviegoers first met the Banks family and their head George, played by Steve Martin (75), in 1991. The "Father of the Bride" continuation followed five years later – and then what? This question was answered on Friday evening (September 25th) on the official YouTube channel of the streaming service Netflix. Over a quarter of a century later, the actors in the comedy series got together again to celebrate another momentous event.

The approximately 25-minute sequel started with an introduction by Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon (44). She drew attention to the fact that "Father of the Bride – Part 3 (ish)", so the original title, should serve a charitable cause. An appeal for donations for the non-profit organization World Central Kitchen followed, and then it started.

Wedding in times of Corona

"Father of the Bride – Part 3 (ish)" was realized in the form of a zoom meeting. First, Diane Keaton (74), Kimberly Williams-Paisley (49) and Kieran Culkin (37) entered the video chat room in their film roles, shortly afterwards Ben Platt (27) and Florence Pugh (24) joined in, who are now adults Children from Williams-Paisley aka Annie Banks played. It was followed by Steve Martin – with a face mask, as it should be in times of the corona pandemic – and George Newbern (55).

The corona pandemic, a good keyword, because that's what the sequel was about. Kieran Culkin aka Matty Banks was planning to say yes to his girlfriend Rachel, played by Alexandra Shipp (29). However, the pandemic intervened. And so Matty used the presence of his entire family in the video chat to conduct the ceremony in front of the screens – much to the surprise of his bride.

Martin Short (70), who played the party organizer Franck Eggelhoffer in the previous films, performed the wedding, Hollywood star Robert De Niro (77) gave Rachel's father. And head of the family, George? He was upset: "I was so excited to be the groom's father at a big wedding that I don't have to pay for," said Martin in his role. He didn't like the fact that Rachel's father didn't have to bear any costs at the Zoom wedding.
