Dor more than half a century, Dogu Perinçek, 80, has been a discreet but central player in Turkish political life. Former Maoist militant, student leader during the black decade which elapsed between two military coups (1971 and 1980), imprisoned on numerous occasions, he is the leader of a micro-party, from the extreme left, but today closer to the extreme right. Its position has evolved towards an anti-American “national-sovereignism”. Since 2015, he has been supporting the policy of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and influencing power in its strategic “readjustment” towards the East, towards Russia and China. Recently, this admirer of Lenin, Mao and Atatürk took a stand in favor of Marine Le Pen against Emmanuel Macron…
