PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–The German company Lufthansa indicated on Monday that it plans to return to service in the summer of 2023 the Airbus A380s in its fleet in order to cope with the resumption of air traffic and delays in delivery on other devices.
“Lufthansa is reactivating the Airbus A380 in response to the surge in customer demand and delays in the delivery of ordered aircraft,” the carrier said in a statement.
“The company is currently assessing the number of A380s that will be reactivated and the destinations to which [ils] will fly,” he added.
Lufthansa owns 14 Airbus A380s, which are currently stationed in Spain and France for long-term storage. Six of these aircraft have already been sold, and eight are still part of the Lufthansa fleet, the company said.
The Airbus A380 is the largest passenger aircraft in the world. Several companies abandoned its operation during the health crisis due to insufficient occupancy rates.
